About Bom Caminho
Bom Caminho is a walking-holiday company for the Camino Português: rooms booked, bags moved between them, route notes in your pocket, someone reachable every day you walk. It is run from Portugal by one person, and it is currently being registered as a Portuguese travel agency. Until that registration is issued there are no bookings and no payments.
Who runs it
José Carvas, based in Portugal. One person, not a call centre — whoever writes the route notes here is the same person who will book your rooms and answer your email on the trail.
One route, too: the Camino Português, in three itineraries.
- Central, Porto to Santiago — 263 km, 12 nights, from €1,090 per person.
- Coastal, Porto to Santiago — about 259 km, 13 nights, from €1,190 per person.
- Last 100 km, Tui to Santiago — 119 km, 7 nights, from €695 per person.
Nothing here covers the Camino Francés, the Norte, or anywhere outside Portugal and Galicia.
Where we are right now
Bom Caminho is not a registered travel agency yet. Selling a package holiday in Portugal requires registration with Turismo de Portugal, and that registration is in progress. RNAVT n.º [pending].
Until it is issued:
- No bookings. Nothing on this site is a checkout.
- No payment. No deposit, no holding fee, no card details.
- An enquiry is an expression of interest, not a contract. Tell us the route and the dates you have in mind, and you get a reply within 48 hours: the dates that work, the hotels we would use, an indicative price per person, and where the registration stands.
When it is issued, the company name, NIPC and RNAVT number replace the placeholders in the booking conditions and the ficha informativa, and bookings open: 25% deposit, balance due 42 days before departure, cancellation charges on a ladder published in advance. Money paid to us is then covered by the Fundo de Garantia de Viagens e Turismo, the Portuguese fund that protects travellers if an agency becomes insolvent. Bookings open when registration completes, expected winter 2026/27.
2027 is a Holy Year in Santiago — the first since 2021, the next in 2032. It will be busy, and that is the season this is being built for.
What a package covers
The same six things on all three routes.
- A hand-picked room with a private bathroom every night, breakfast included.
- Luggage moved stage to stage, up to 20 kg per person. You walk with a daypack.
- A digital roadbook and GPX tracks for your phone or watch.
- Your pilgrim credential, ready for stamps.
- Email support every day you are walking, answered by someone who knows the route.
- A pre-departure call before you fly — fitness, kit, weather, whatever is worrying you.
Walking alone costs a flat €295 single supplement on any package. A fixed fee, not a percentage.
Not included: travel to Porto and home from Santiago, lunches and dinners (half board is an optional extra), travel insurance, and personal spending.
Why the route guides stay free
The route guides came first and they stay up. 25 of them: the stages, what it costs, the weather month by month, what to pack, how the Compostela works. Free, complete, no paywall and no email wall. We run no ads, take no sponsored placements, and nobody pays to be recommended in them.
They are not bait for the packages. If you read them, work out your own stages and book every bed yourself, they have done their job — start with what the Camino Português really costs. The packages are for people who would rather hand the logistics to someone else.
