The Coastal Way is the Atlantic version of the Camino Português: long runs of wooden boardwalk over the dunes, working fishing towns — Vila do Conde, Viana do Castelo, Baiona — and the little ferry across the Minho estuary at Caminha that carries you out of Portugal and into Galicia. At Redondela the route folds into the Central way, and the two walk into Santiago together.
Worth knowing: the Coastal is flatter than the Central — fewer climbs, kinder gradients — but it's the longer walk, and flat kilometres still count. And the same openness that makes it glorious leaves you exposed: wind and sun are real out here, shade is scarce on a boardwalk, and a hat, sun cream and early starts matter more than on any inland route.

It depends what you walk for. The Coastal gives you the Atlantic, boardwalks, seafood towns and flatter days; the Central gives you Roman roads, historic towns and the strongest pilgrim tradition. Flatter than the Central — the climbs are fewer and gentler — but it's the longer route, and several days run 24–25 km. The real tax is exposure: wind and sun on open boardwalks with little shade.
